Candidates Will Pay a Price if They Don’t

Run a “Clean” Campaign in Lynbrook

Lynbrook, NY – Warning to all candidates running for public office this election: Do not post signs, bumper stickers or campaign literature where they are not permitted in the Village of Lynbrook and, as parents and teachers remind children, “remember to clean-up after yourselves.”

If they don’t follow the rules, candidates will pay a fine for campaign paraphernalia that is placed illegally or is left ignored after election day, clinging to public fences and private buildings or on light poles and other apparatus.

“For the candidates and their supporters, it makes no sense from a political or campaign budget point of view to post signs where they are not permitted or to leave them hanging long after election day,” said Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran. “The fines that will be assessed to the candidates for illegal and abandoned postings are actually wasting the campaign contributions of their supporters.”

Illegally placed signs have a negative impact on the village’s quality of life and they can pose a danger to the public if they are not safely installed. The goal of this initiative is twofold:

  • Achieve compliance with village election sign laws while maintaining safe conditions for the public; and

  • Advance the mission of the Village of Lynbrook to be the cleanest village on Long Island.

“Enough is enough,” said Mayor Curran.  “We are working to keep the Village of Lynbrook clean, and candidates running for public office should know better.  I have instructed our police department to fine anyone that posted or put up signage and other literature that is illegal and distracts from the beauty of our village.  I ant the candidates to keep their illegal political signs out of Lynbrook.”
