Becker, Hawxhurst, & McLaughlin Take Oath of Office

 Lynbrook, NY – The Village of Lynbrook recently celebrated the swearing in of Hilary Becker and Michael Hawxhurst to serve as Trustees and William McLaughlin to continue serving as Village Justice.

Mr. Becker is a staunch advocate and volunteer of numerous vital community organizations and activities.  He is President of the Lynbrook Youth Athletic Association, Head Coach of the youth wrestling program, Head Coach of a Girls Self Defense Program, past member of Catholic Charities Real Estate Committee, Vice Chairperson for Franklin Hospital Medical Center Advisory Board, Chairperson of the St. Raymond’s Stewardship Committee, and President of the Board of Directors of MOMMAS House.  His charitable endeavors earned him the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Mr. Becker, a certified property manager, is President and Founder of Becker Real Estate Services, Inc. based in Lynbrook.  Mr. Becker holds numerous positions with trade associations including President of the Long Island Board of Realtors Appraisal Division, and Past-President of the Institute of Real Estate Management’s Greater New York Chapter.  Mr. Becker is an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University School of Continuing Education, and Molloy College where he teaches the licensing classes for real estate sales and appraisals.  His education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Accounting from Pace University, and a Real Estate Diploma, from New York University.  He is currently an Adjunct Professor for Molloy College, and Long Island University, where he teaches the real estate licensing courses.  Mr. Becker and his wife, Geralyn, have four children: Noelle, Joe, Dave, and Tom.

Since moving to Lynbrook in 1995 with his wife, Melissa, Mr. Hawxhurst has established an exemplary record of service to the community.  He is a member of the Citizen’s Budget Committee, Lynbrook School Board Building Utilization Committee, Winter Celebration Committee, which organizes the Village’s Breakfast with Santa and Village Tree Lighting, and the Lynbrook Village Summer Swim Team.  Mr. Hawxhurst is also a member of St. Mary’s Council of Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Peace Parish.  He has also been involved in the planning of the Annual Lynbrook Expo and Lynbrook Summer Celebration and served as an assistant for Lynbrook Titans Lacrosse and St. Raymond’s CYO Swim Team.

Mr. Hawxhurst is an executive director, regional portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley.  His responsibilities include managing the audit coverage of the commodities division in North America; coordinating the global reporting and issue tracking processes; managing the coverage of both the Morgan Stanley Bank, N.A, and Morgan Stanley Trust FSB; and establishing a continuing monitoring process to identify increasing risk profiles within each audit entity.

Mr. Hawxhurst holds a Master’s Degree in Taxation from St. John’s University, Jamaica, NY, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a Minor in Economics from State University of Albany, Albany, NY.  He is an active member of the New York State Society of CPA’s, American Institute of CPA’s, and Institute of Internal Auditors Securities Industry Association – Internal Auditors Division.  Mr. Hawxhurst and his wife, Melissa, have two children: Hannah and Sarah.

Mr. McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of Lynbrook, is a graduate of Lynbrook High School, class of 1970, and has been a member of the Lynbrook Fire Department since 1970, serving as a Warden of the Fire Department since 1987.  He served as a New York City Firefighter for 20 years, having retired in 1993 to practice law full time.  While in the FDNY, he was a member of the Uniformed Firefighters Association Executive Board for 5 years and served on the Board of Trustees of the New York City Fire Department Pension Fund for three of those years.  He served the last 17 years of his career in Ladder Company 132 in Brooklyn.

Mr. McLaughlin is experienced in handling all types of personal injury files from intake through trial. He has Supreme Court trial experience in New York City and Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland Counties and extensive experience in depositions, all real estate legal issues, Surrogate Court, and criminal defense work.  Mr. McLaughlin and his wife, Marianne, have four children: Meghan Zelles, Brian, Kevin and Kara.   

Presently, he is principal of Law Office of William J. McLaughlin.  Previously he served as a partner of O’Brien, McLaughlin & Kenny from 1996-2003 and as an associate at Sullivan & Liapakis, PC, from 1993-96; and Congdon Flaherty O’Callaghan Reid Donlon Travis & Fishlinger from 1983-85 and 1990-93. He earned his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in 1983.
