Lynbrook’s New
Residents Receive Warm Welcome from Mayor
Curran
Lynbrook, NY …September 9, 2009 ... Continuing
a Lynbrook tradition, Mayor Brian Curran
welcomed new residents to the Village of
Lynbrook at a special gathering held at the
Lynbrook Public Library. The evening, which
is called “New Resident Night”, is designed
to officially welcome new Lynbrook residents
to the village by the Village Board, Village
personnel and Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Curran spoke to Lynbrook’s newest
residents about the extensive services and
programs the Village provides. Promising the
new residents that they will “embrace
Lynbrook and feel as if they have been
residents for years,” Mayor Curran asserted
that Lynbrook is home to the best schools,
churches and recreational facilities.
Following the Mayor’s comments, the new
residents were welcomed and addressed by
representatives of Village Hall, Lynbrook
Fire Department, Lynbrook Police Department,
Chamber of Commerce and Trustee Alan Beach.
When Mayor Curran’s parents moved to
Lynbrook over 40 years ago, they were
greeted on their door step by several
neighbors who welcomed them to the Village
and gave them a “Welcome Basket.” “That
memory of Lynbrook remains as one of their
fondest. I want families and people who move
to Lynbrook today to receive the same warm
welcome, creating special memory for them,”
said Mayor Curran.
Shortly after being elected in March 2007,
Mayor Curran restored the New Resident
Welcoming Committee. The committee was
established by former Mayor and New York
State Supreme Court Justice the Honorable
Francis X. Becker and quickly became an
established tradition in the Village.
Within a few years after Mr. Becker
completed his tenure, the Committee was
disbanded and new residents welcoming
program was abandoned.
“The continued success of ‘New Resident
Night’ is due to the hard work of the
members of the Committee, as well as the
generosity of the Lynbrook Chamber of
Commerce and local stores,” said Mayor
Curran.
At
the conclusion of the program, each new
resident was presented with a “Village
Welcome Bag” that contained information
relating to the schools, churches,
businesses and local officials. The bag also
included various gift certificates and
special offerings from our local shops and
businesses. All of the new residents were
grateful for the introduction and the
information provided to them.
