"The Green Machine" Honors Ex-Captain Kevin A. Murphy

"The Green Machine," Lynbrook Fire Department's Vulcan Chemical & Hose Company, honored its ex-Captain Kevin A. Murphy during its Annual Installation Dinner.  In addition to members of the house, family and friends, (L to R) New York State Senator Dean G. Skelos, (Mr. Murphy and his wife), Nassau County Legislator Francis X. Becker, Jr., New York State Assemblyman Robert Barra, and Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran recognized and honored the leadership and selflessness of Mr. Murphy.  The Vulcan Chemical & Hose Company Engine # 2 was organized on September 10, 1910.  Of primary importance and concern was fire protection east of Earle Avenue to the village line and north of the East Rockaway line to the present Lakeview Avenue. The company was incorporated as the Lynbrook Chemical Engine Company # 1 on January 30, 1911 and was manned by nineteen Volunteer Firemen under the capable leadership of Doctor Simon Schleicher, a noted dentist in Lynbrook.
