A
Garden in Recognition of Service,
Love, Commitment and Leadership
A new garden located at Greis Park has
been dedicated in honor of Lynbrook
resident Mr. Tony Lenzo. In addition to
family and friends of Mr. Lenzo,
Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran, Trustees
Alan Beach and Michael Hawxhurst,
Assemblyman Robert Barra, Richard Flynn,
director of department of recreation,
attended the dedication.
Gardening is Mr. Lenzo's passion. He is
a founding member of the Community
Gardens, and he is founding member of
the Community Garden.
Born
and raised in Italy, Mr. Lenzo
immigrated to the US after World War II.
He served in the US Army in the Korean
War and the Medical Corp in Germany.
Mr. Lenzo and his wife, Anne, are the
proud parents of two daughters. A
master tailor, Mr. Lenzo is a member of
the VFW and Knights of Columbus, as well
as usher at Our Lady of Peace.
The new Tony Lenzo Community Gardens
is a renovation of the old Community
Garden area which included the
installation of new fencing,
signage, asphalt pathways, planting
boxes, sheds, landscaping and
benches. The Community Gardens
renovation is part of Phase I
construction of the Lynbrook Bike
Path and Exercise Trial Park that
will extend Greis Park from Wright
Avenue to John Street.
Mayor Curran explained,
“We are very excited about how great
the Community Gardens look and the
Village Board was honored to name
the new Gardens after Tony. He
really has been instrumental in
keeping the Gardens going over the
last few years when the area had
become run down. Now, the area looks
fantastic and it is just the first
step in turning this wasted space
into a great area for our kids,
seniors and all residents.”
